I thought they were plastic. When they arrived, they were heavy duty density foam. They work better on small & medium pots than barrel size ones, as the weight of pot. Soil & plants compress them & the pot could become unevenly leveled.They worked quite well with most of my pots, however, so I am pleased with their performance with all but the larger pots. They do their job, which is to raise the pot off my patio & thus keep the drainage holes from clogging up.This works great. Keeps my plant pots off my deck so water doesn't sit under the pot and rot my deck.
